Through tracing his contributions to the field, we explore censorship in science and how it has evolved over time. February 19th, 2023 marks the 550th anniversary of the birth of a man that changed modern science forever, Nicolaus Copernicus. His observations drastically altered the way we see ourselves in the wider universe and became the foundation for astronomy, but they were also banned for some hundred years. Since his time, censorship and suppression of science have changed, but are still around today.

Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh’s talent in the 2022 movie “Everything Everywhere All At Once” has racked up wins at the Golden Globes, SAG-AFTRA Awards, and an Oscar nomination for best actress. Before Yeoh, Merle Oberon was the first Asian nominated in the Oscar’s best actress category, however she hid her South Asian identity due to anti-miscegenation laws. Anna May Wong, who is considered the first Chinese-American movie star, dealt with discrimination firsthand and was outspoken about Hollywood's treatment of Asian actresses.
